This is the sequel to The Crimson Moth and I was excited to read it. But like any reader who loves the first book, I was a little nervous to dive in. Second books can be tricky. The expectations are high. The world is already established. The emotional stakes need to rise without losing what made the first book great. Luckily, The Rebel Witch delivers on every level. Kristen Ciccarelli did not disappoint and again I devoured this book!

As always, I’m not going to say too much about the plot (especially for those who haven’t yet read The Crimson Moth. Seriously, what are you waiting for?). What I will say is that this book builds beautifully on everything that came before. Rune and Gideon’s struggle between their hearts and their loyalties remains the emotional core of the story. The tension never feels forced or overdone. It just works.

The pacing is fast and the action never drags. I guessed some of the twists early but that didn’t take away from the impact. If anything, it kept me hooked waiting for the moment everything would fall into place. The writing draws you in from the first chapter and doesn’t let go.

Honestly, I have nothing bad to say about this book. I love a sequel that not only lives up to the first book but also makes the entire series feel stronger. It’s already secured a place on my re-read shelf along with The Crimson Moth, easy favourites!
